Simple need not apply

Because I like to torture myself, I peed on a stick yesterday. Perhaps you are wondering why a woman who still hasn't even had her period since the D&C would do such a thing. I am over four weeks past the procedure, and I was starting to get concerned. Of course, we all know that I should give it a few more weeks before I start to worry that my uterus may have initiated a revolt. But, I was a bit curious as to whether an HPT could detect any HCG still clinging to my body. The problem is that I didn't really anticipate what I would do with the results.

If you squint or applied the magic of super contrasting analysis, there were two lines. Either way, seeing a line didn't really help me. If it were totally negative then I would wonder where AF is, as I would erroneously conclude that I had no HCG in me and that indeed Ute was pouting. If it were totally positive, then I would be concerned that either I was pregnant again (way too soon btw), or that my body was waging an all out war against me and using the HCG as its weapon of mass destruction. With a kinda-sorta-positive or negative result, I am left with only one alternative...total mass confusion and being really really pissed off.

Thankfully, I have been well educated by the trials of others, so I got my doctor to draw blood for a quantitative HCG evaluation. That was yesterday, the results were supposed to be in today. And since simple and straight forward need not apply here, the results are delayed until Monday. So the question exists whether it is safe to have a gin and tonic this weekend and whether that Gorgonzola in the fridge is going to make it into my stomach. I am going with the safe assumption, as I have no symptoms of being pregnant. (God knows I have been obsessively checking.) But if I am pregnant, then I guess I would be good company to that smoking pregnant woman while I enjoy my gin.

we went to Vegas two weeks after I got pregnant and did a bunch of those shows where there was a 2 drink minimum. DD seems fine.

I think the deal with the alcohol is don't go getting your blood alcohol level up too high. so one drink should be okay.

But I think you might be really guilty if anything were to happen.

HUGS. I know this is so hard for you.

((hugs)) I don't know what to tell you, but I don't think a drink or two will hurt if you are pregnant.. you don't share anything with the baby for the first couples of weeks, the placenta doesn't form till like 5-6 weeks after conception.. Just God's little way of protecting the little one for the people NOT TTC.

Go ahead, relax, have fun. Just don't go crazy!

i don't think the baby will be hurt by a drink of cheese after all often you don't find out till weeks later and thise babes are okay

wishing you luck

Just wanted to wish you good luck making it to Monday. The wait really sucks. I'll be thinking of you this weekend.

In a new pregnancy, the HCG would be increasing, and another HPT 24 hours after the first would probably be more decisive, line-wise.

On the other hand, the little buggers are expensive and paying good money for tortuous non-answers always pisses *me* off.

On the OTHER other hand, if your gorganzola is made with pasteurized milk, there's no reason not to eat it anyway.

Go the gin and gorgonzola my love - even if you are pg at this early stage they can't hurt, and Lord knows you of all people deserve it.

After my last d&c it took about 8 or so weeks for af to come knocking again, and the one before that was more like 6 weeks or so.

...I'd have the alcohol, but that's just me. Sh*t, I was POAC after an IVF cycle that I thought went down the tubes. Long story short, that rum and coke didn't do any harm (and am now miraculously knocked up). Drink it, I say! What the hell. :-)

I may be missing something, but don't they usually monitor your levels after a D&C without you having to take matters into your own hands and POAS?

How incredibly frustrating to have to wait the whole weekend. It's probably safe to imbibe a little, but only if it won't make you uncomfortable.

Holy Shit!!!!

Of course you're pregnant....and I am laughing my ass off at you. Go for the cheese with a side of folic acid, stay the gin and tonic, and celebrate.

I'm renaming you fertile myrtle after this....chuckle.

i too am surprised that they aren't monitoring you on their own accord. . . well, that would be simple now wouldn't it?
i say go for the cocktail and nice cheese if you feel okay about it. i would if i were you. then again, if there's doubt in your mind about wether or not it's the right thing to do, then don't do it. this way you won't give yourself the opportunity to ever second guess yourself.
i hope the weekend passes for you with lightening speed.

Whoa.

I keep trying to leave a wittier comment, but that's all I can come up with. Whoa, she says excitedly.

I am sorry you are stuck in such a mindfuck right now.

Could you possibly be pregnant? In my case, I know it isn't possible because I haven't had a sperm near me in weeks. . .

I hope this works out exactly how you want it to. You deserve a little luck.

All I got is eat the cheese. Or invite me over and I'll eat it for you. I've never had gin before, but I'm willing to try new things. God knows I could use a drink or twelve right now.

I'll trade you a couple hugs for them.

a/k/a Nadine said...

No wait, that isn't right. You can have the hugs for free anytime (no bartering required).

Thinking of you.

I doubt there's a person among us who wouldn't understand why you peed on a stick. Goodness knows I do it all the time - even after the first positive just to make sure it's still positive. And I would have been even more ridiculous, making my husband hide the sticks from me and then freaking out until he gave them back.

You'll beat me out for the fertile prize if you're pregnant again BEFORE your period! That said, my HCG never returned to zero after my mc, even after my period came.

Best wishes and keep us updated.

Argh... Why are they torturing you and us by making you wait till Monday... Nicole, you know how much I want you to be pregnant again, so I'll just sit here on my pins and needles waiting till Monday... Oh, and I'll be glued to your blog looking for any clues... hoping all the time for you! X

I wish you the best!

Oh, waiting until Monday does sound like torture. I hate how the medical community can be so cavalier about these things. I had an x-ray on Wednesday that the results hadn't come back by 5 pm Friday, so I have to wait until next week. Not the same thing, but still frustrating. Have the cheese and gin. You deserve it!

Nicole...your weekend will have probably passed by the time you read these comments. I hope you were able to some degree, enjoy your weekend. I am sure your feelings were all over the place. Hopefully Monday will bring good news.

ugh - monday can't come soon enough. i can't believe they didn't get back to you last week - it shouldn't take that long for an hcg test. here's hoping that there is something good in this for you - you certainly deserve a break. fingers crossed for you.

When my 1st miscarriage was announced to me and my Doctor asked how I was doing, I let her know that I needed a drink and a smoke. Her response was that I should do whatever works for me. So that's what I did before inserting the misoprostal to abort.

I guess what I'm saying here is do what feels best for you.

Thank you for all your support these last few days, I truly appreciate knowing that there are people like you out there that understand my pain and have me in their thoughts.

I hope that you ate all of the gorgonzola cheese your stomach can stand and enjoyed yourself a little. You have had such a hard time that any glimmer of happiness is worth such a minimal risk!

Let us know what your doctor says...

Oh how nice for you. I hate not knowing what's going on! I'm anxious to know the results of your blood draw. I hope you find something out.

Good luck on your exams as well!

hope you're doing ok and got results by now. i'll echo one of the comments. after i got my d &c in 2005, i remember it took a while to get my period and there was a time right before i got it when i peed on a stick, quite nervous that i would have to have another abortion right after the first one. it's very anxiety provoking no matter where you're at in the process.
have a good day today.

Just in case you are pregnant again (which I wouldn't be surprised if you were:), I just read that eating chocolate reduces the chance of m.c. by 20%. Don't think they know why, but I'd run with that.
