Delusions of Grandeur

The weekends are never quite what I hoped they would be. I always have delusions of grandeur on Friday, and I am consistently sorely disappointed. No wild parties, no fancy restaurants, no sex 3 times a day. (OK, so the last one is really my fault since my UTI-like symptoms kind of put the brakes on all that for a bit.) And then you add a big fat negative to the mix, and well, you know. However, sometimes making a few good purchases can rescue an otherwise banal weekend.

Friday, I finally used a gift certificate for T@rget that I received from a friend due to a good deed. I went out a bought a deep electric fryer with it. It's awesome! Never mind that I am really not supposed to eat fried foods because of my genetic predisposition to croaking over from a heart attack in my 30's or 40's. But life is so much better when you include fried foods. So that night, we enjoyed so much vegetable tempura that now I don't even want to see anything fried for a few weeks.

What else did I do that was self destructive? Glad you asked. I ate all the things that you are not supposed to eat if you have a putative interstitial cystitis diagnosis. I consumed 3 cups of coffee Saturday morning after going for a full week without. I had a beer Friday night. I ate a bag of Funyuns, complete with MSG, for breakfast on Saturday. Then for dinner, I enjoyed spaghetti with a lot of aged Parmesan and enough tomato sauce to burn an acid hole right through my bladder. Then that night, I whined and whimpered about how much my bladder burned, and then grumped so much at my husband that he moved from the love seat next to me to the couch on the other side of the living room. Good job, me.

Today, Husband and I went to the Tractor Supply store a good half hour away to buy a maul to chop wood. Of course, I couldn't walk out of there without a full exploration of the place. Turns out I love tractor supply stores as much as I love office supply stores, which is A LOT! We walked out with a big dog bed for our German Shepherd (hereinafter GSD), a mammoth bag of dog food, and a giant Nylabone to the GSD to chew on. Even more evidence of my self destructive mood, given that we really don't have money budgeted for such things.

Here's the funny part, the Jack Russell Terrier was keen on the bed and bone and took over both immediately (shown here). She really rules the roost around here, and clearly has her own delusions of grandeur.

Sorry they are so blurry, but I don't have a digital camera, I only have the camera on my cell phone.

Also, I thought I would share some photos of my kitchen. This is what happens when I am not feeling well. It just hasn't learned to keep itself clean yet. By the way, I know you want to know the name of my decorator after seeing the color of my kitchen walls. You should see the bathroom. It has a pept0 b1sm0l pink toilet, a black counter top and black carpet! Yeah, carpet!

OO OO I'm the first!

Sorry about the BFN, I like how you hid it there, BUT you are just come off a rough month with UTIs and various things messing with the works, right?

Soooo maybe next month will finally take hold, don't worry. And hey, a black kitchen is trendy, really. Plus, you have all those nice wine glasses and kitchen gadgets.

I think it looks good.

That doesn't sound like a such a bad weekend... I'm all for self indulgences. Mmmm, tempura. And the tractor supply store sounds pretty neat. I've never been to one of those. I like the photos of the doggies and kitchen, too. Fun stuff.

I would love a fried food maker.

I settled for making brownies (or eating batter, as the case may be) and buying dog toys. I found a brightly-colored stuffed cockroach but was disappointed to learn there'd been a whole series. Paulie (the maltese) would've loved to play with the tomato worm!

Three cheers for a food and dog-oriented weekend!

I feel the same way sometimes...My weekends suck big time!

But it sounds like you were pretty productive:)

Funyuns! I like the "Onion Rings." GOD! They are so good!:)

I can understand about eating all the wrong things. My favorate food (is it a food?) in the world is coffee. I have acid reflux, but I can usually manage it through diet. Basically, if I don't overeat on greasy foods, I'm okay. But coffee is the other trigger. I've been unable to wean myself off coffee! I'm a drug addict, but a happy drug addict.

Geez man, sorry about the sucky BFN... %$#%&

Your self destruction methods sound deliciously groovy, esp. that tomato sauce burning a hole in your gut story made me laugh!

We have been tempted numerous times to go buy a deep fryer, but never have. I think we'd only eat fried food if we did!

I'd volunteer to come straighten up your kitchen, but I think we live sorta far apart. It'd at least get me out of the house!

hey, no judgment about the carpet. we have carpet in the bathroom too. it's on our loooong list of house to-dos. when we win the lottery, that is.

i loved the dog pictures. hilarious.

sorry about the BFN. the one silver lining is, of course, the permission we grant ourselves once a month to indulge in all that we shouldn't. go funyuns!

ok, i'm not very hip with the lingo, but I just figured out what the BFN stood for. Oh, I'm sorry to hear that.

I ate too many cheet0s on Saturday, and WAY too many M/nM's last night.

Well, I'm all for undulgences if they don't make you sick later. That's the thing--if I indulge, I get sick and the sickness is way worse and last way longer than the pleasure from the indugence.

SO I hope you don't get sick.

I like tractor stores too! YAY!

I have a problem with expectations. I EXPECT weekends to be fun-filled but they are usually all too ordinary. If we could just release those expectations . . . yah, right.

Oh my, you were a bad baaad girl this weekend. Good for you! Isn't it fun sometimes to just throw caution to the wind & do what feels good just because it does!
I treated myself to a Big Mac combo meal & 3 chocolate chip cookies from McDonald's last week & omgosh was it ever so good!

Washing dishes? Totally overrated. Anyhow, isn't that what spouses are for? I know that's what mine's for.

I love Tractor Supply Stores :) I grew up all around farms and was a herdsman for a few years...I use to shop in them like they were a department store...it was to me :)

oh my I laughed so hard when I saw your great big dog in the dog bed...poor GSD. I just made our dog a new bed for Christmas...took a towel, folded it in half, stuffed with a bag of polyfil and sewed it shut...tadah! one dog bed and one very happy dog too. But she won't share. I tried to sit on the bed, she pushed me off.

I can't be sure about when cookies will be on sale in your area...but your local Girl Scout council might have it posted on their website (ours does) and can help you locate a troop near you to buy from too. Good luck with that. Worst case, I'll be happy to sell you some. ;)

Those pictures are extremely clear considering they're taken with a cell.
Love your counters! Love black in the kitchen.

I think it is the little ones that always rule the roost! I had a feeling that was the case when I saw the picture, before reading further. Our dogs are pretty much the same size, but the younger one is the one that takes over all toys and beds.

Ooooo... I spy a P&C bag. I miss that store! :-)
