We made the 40 minute drive to the doctor this morning only to discover that my doctor was stuck in a surgery that went long. And so I was rescheduled for 1:45pm. Husband and I drove back to our hometown. Then we drove out again at 1:00pm. The drives were made much less anxious by Husband's recordings of several This American Life episodes.
I talked to Liz the nurse and apologized for bugging them on a busy day. She was nothing but compassionate and reminded me that I was never bugging them. I really needed to hear that.
Then the doctor came in and I told him all my concerns which he took seriously. I apologized to him too, and his reaction was the same as the nurse's. All compassion. I needed to hear that too. He did a complete pelvic exam, checking my cervix and uterus height. He enthusiastically assured me that everything looked perfect! Then we heard the heartbeat at 150bpm. More reassurance and we were sent home feeling so relieved and quite honestly I didn't feel so stupid. I felt validated. As you all said, going to my doctor was absolutely the right thing to do. And, I also felt again that I had made the right choice in my practitioner. Now, it's nap time.

Oh Nicole. I'm so glad everything is okay. I was sure it was but how are you to know? I didn't feel the baby move for a day and it scared the shit out of me. And you know what? The doctors and nurses get it. I apologized for calling after that episode and they said call anytime. And you know what? They meant it. Being pregnant is so confusing. It's hard to know when to call...in my mind it never feels important enough. Well, it feels important enough to me but I think it'll seem silly to the nurse who answers. But it doesn't. Hugs!
I too am relieved. See? I don't even know you (AND i knew everything was PROBABLY fine) and yet I was worrying on your behalf. And you think you're crazy?
You did the right thing. And, happily, so did your care providers, which, as you say, is another way in which you did the right thing (by choosing this practice). So -- kudos to you. And I hope it was a nice nap!
i am so glad you went, and just thrilled that you got good news.
hearing a strong heartbeat like that never gets old. i'm so happy for you. xoxo
Yayyyy for reassurance.
If nothing else you now feel better about your Doctor, right? So that's good.
What happened about the UTI? Did you leave a sample? I mean, I assume that's what has been bothering you?
Glad to hear all is well.
YAY NICOLE... I am so happy that everything is ok and now you can relax a little...
Yay! I'm so very glad everything turned out OK, and happy, too, that your providers understand your concerns. Peace of mind is woderful thing. I bet that nap was the best sleep you've had in days.
That is great Nicole. Doctor's are there for us and I, too asked loads of questions. Wait until the baby is born, you will ask thousands of questions :)
Glad to know all is well!
Yay, glad you feel better and got some great news.
Sounds like you picked a great practice. Sleep well!
well i am sure your nap is over now - sorry its been busy. anyway i am glad you feel better and are doing well.
hi nicole, how exciting this all is. so wonderful to hear the heartbeat, i well remember that moment.
in answer to your question about breastfeeding on my blog, i still think it is a choice and that if you choose to stay off meds and breastfeed, you will need a lot of support but it is a great thing to try out. just have a good plan for what to do in terms of if you notice symptoms of mania or depression so you can be prepared to take meds and stop breastfeeding. i also think it's important to consider that it is better to stop breastfeeding than breastfeed on meds that could be dangerous for the baby's development. but it sounds like you may want to do it. also at the beginning it is very hard and not so easy to figure out how to even get the baby on, etc. so make sure you have good support and positive people all around... i know that's all way in the future but it is good to think about your choices in advance and have a good plan in place...
